The Canadian company Chatters started in Regina in 1991 as a small, stylist-founded haircare destination.
Today, the Alberta-headquartered salon chain boasts 114 full-service locations across the country with a roster of more than 1,200 stylists. In addition to providing salon services, Chatters offers a wide variety of haircare products.
“Our true point of differentiation is that we are the third-largest distributor of professional hair care goods in North America and the single largest in Canada,” Greg Moreau, the company’s president and CEO, explains. “We are laser-focused on providing an elevated in-store and in-salon experience, listening and anticipating the needs of our clients and curating an assortment of the best professional hair care and beauty products globally.
“This includes being first-to market by introducing digitally native-brands to our extensive retail selection including: Bellami Professional and Virtue.”

Q. For those who aren’t familiar, what is Chatters?
A. Chatters is a proudly Canadian company. Our mission is to be the official supplier of Style Happy Hair Days. We strive to offer the most inclusive and environmentally sustainable salon and shopping experience — inspiring our guests to look good, feel good and do good, one style at a time. Our vision is to constantly evolve alongside our customer.
Q. How has the company changed in the last 30 years?
A. We understand our guests are constantly on the lookout for the next big hair trend, as such, we are actively providing best-in-class education to our stylist community and continuously reviewing and curating our assortment of products to ensure we are offering the right product mix to ultimately help our guests achieve their hair goals.
Q. And how has the hair industry changed during that time?
A. Over the last 30 years, there are a lot of things that have changed in the hair industry. Hair trends, for starters, are ever changing. From the introduction of high-fashion unicorn shades and vibrant colours to soft pastels. This was unattainable 30 years ago. Lived-in colour, balayage and extended roots are more styles that likely would have required a colour correction 30 years ago, but are now some of the most recognizable trends.
The changes don’t end at trends, innovative products are also helping to grow the industry and take the artistry of hair to new heights. Products such as bonders are allowing stylists to take your hair lighter than ever possible. Lastly, as with most industries, we have seen massive growth and advancements in the digital space, from stylist promotion through social media to product delivery via ecommerce, as the world migrates to a more virtual space, the opportunities for growth are truly endless.
Q. Who is the target Chatters customer?
A. Our key target are clients who value fashionable, high-quality hair services and products and understands the investment in professional hair care and services.
Q. Lastly, what can we expect to see from Chatters in the future?
A. We’re really excited about the future here at Chatters. Elevating our customer experience continues to be our top priority, we continue to adapt and build on our product and service offerings. We are evolving our service menu to create a more inclusive atmosphere for all. Stay tuned for new brand launches this fall including Bellami Professional and Acure and an exciting new loyalty program coming in 2022.
