Several new shops in process on Second Street – theperrynews.com

A handful of new shops are coming to birth along Second Street in Perry’s downtown business and cultural district.
Maddie Cakes Bakery at 1014 Second St. will be open before Halloween, according to owner Maddie Kelderman, who said final touches on renovations to the building and state inspections should be completes next week.
“It’s kind of just a waiting game right now,” said the Newton native. “I will have some seating as well as carry out, and I’ll continue to take custom orders as well!”
Maddie Cakes Bakery, where the old Perry Cafe once traded, will be serving Mountain High Coffee as well as bored lemonades, teas and Italian sodas. The phone number is 515-642-6233.
It’s Hair has been a fixture in the Perry self-care market since 1989, and longtime owner and Perry native Stephanie Garrett is in the process of relocating the business from 803 First Ave. to 1222 Second St.
Garrett will keep cutting in her First Avenue hair — services include hair color, men’s cuts, perming, spray tanning, shampoo/sets, prom and wedding and children’s cuts — until renovations are complete on the downtown space, formerly the site of Lenny Stracke’s Downtown Stylist. The phone number of It’s Hair is 515-465-4544.
The Perry Historic Preservation Commission approved a certificate of appropriateness Monday for proposed improvements to the storefront at 1104 Second St., which has been under construction intermittently since 2017.
Kyle Bettis of Cumming, owner of KB Custom Glass and Metal, and Davin Roberts, co-owner of the property, presented their proposal for the new Second-Street facade Aug. 9 to the Perry Historic Preservation Commission, which approved the plan this week.
