J. Henry’s Barber Shop, a popular spot in Orlando’s Parramore neighborhood, burned Friday night in what officials believe was an accidental fire.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at 10:54 p.m. after hearing reports of smoke coming out all sides of the building, Orlando Fire Department spokesperson Ashley Papagni said.
Investigators ruled the fire accidental, likely caused by an overloaded electrical outlet. No injuries were reported.
The shop, located across the street from Exploria Stadium on the corner of Church Street and Parramore Avenue, suffered “moderate fire damage,” Papagni added. The door and windows were boarded up by Saturday, with glass strewn across the front entrance.
John Henry, who owns the barber shop, told Spectrum News 13 that the building was destroyed. WKMG-Channel 6 reported that he plans on reopening, possibly in a different location than where he has served the community for decades.
Henry was recently featured in a special news report by Spectrum News 13, a news partner of the Orlando Sentinel.
