Owner of popular Orlando barber shop destroyed by fire weighing options for future plans – WFTV Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — The iconic J. Henry’s Barber Shop in Parramore now sits boarded up and closed after an electrical fire tore through it over the weekend.

John “J.” Henry, who’s owned the shop for 40 years, says he’s still trying to figure out what to do next.

Henry says he learned of the fire through a phone call from his wife, an Orlando police officer, Friday night.
“She said, ‘honey, you need to come down to the barber shop,’” Henry recalls.
When he got there, Henry says he wasn’t prepared for what he saw.

“I really started thinking, why me? And then I heard another voice say, why not me?”
J. Henry’s shop is known as the place in Parramore where many would go to “get their heads together.”
Now, Henry says he’s trying to get his own head together to figure out what to do next.

“I’m working on some opportunities in the Parramore community,” Henry said. “I don’t know exactly where I’m going to be just yet…my options are open, but my heart is in Parramore. It’s just something about this place. I love it.”
The owner of the building that housed J. Henry’s barber shop says they’ve already hired a contractor and an architect to rebuild as quickly as possible. He said they value J. Henry, and want him to stay as long as he’d like.
