Over-50s are being urged to fill hundreds of vacant positions in Scotland’s pubs, hotels and restaurants as part of a “silver server” rescue mission to deal with the “worst recruitment crisis in living memory”.
Hospitality bosses said experience was not necessary as they trumpeted the benefits of flexible, part-time work to plug the huge staffing gap. With furlough ending, thousands of over-50s may be left out of work but can find a job in kitchens, bars and restaurants across the country.
Scottish Hospitality Group, which represents some of Scotland’s largest independent operators, has revealed its members are seeking to fill 500 vacancies as younger staff leave due to the strain of the understaffing issues.
