BOSTON — Fenway Park is taking center stage in the world of Major League Baseball. The biggest names in baseball, from Red Sox legend David Ortiz to onetime Sox nemesis Alexander Rodriguez, are at Fenway.
Meanwhile, the national media is gearing up to cover the Boston Red Sox as the team competes for its second World Series Championship in four years.
Out on Van Ness, current Sox heroes like pitcher Nathan Evoldi and slugger Xander Boegarts arrive at Fenway Park while excited fans line the street eager to score an autograph or a photo. For many fans, it’s a generational thing. Travis Mastro is here with his son, Trent, all the way from Presque Isle, Maine for their first ever playoff game.

“It’s amazing, just to have this experience with my son. To be down here [in Boston] is quite amazing,” Travis Mastro said.
As crews readied Fenway Park for Game 3, many out-of-town fans filled Jersey Street. Among them, Wayne Zsamba, a New Jersey man who is taking his son, AJ, to his first game at Fenway Park.
I was surprised Wayne and AJ didn’t root for the rival New York Yankees. Here is what he told me when I asked him why.
“[AJ] is sick of seeing all these Yankee fans running around. He wanted to see some B’s on the hats!” Zsamba said.

All of this unexpected October Red Sox success is a big boost for Boston’s hospitality industry, which endured a lean year in 2020. At Boston’s Liberty Hotel, all rooms are booked during the ALCS and reservations are full for next weekend’s Head of the Charles Regatta.
“It’s a huge turnaround from last year,” Liberty Hotel General Manager Shahram Khan said. “We had a very difficult, as the industry had, a very difficult year. We are glad to be out of that and moving in the right direction.”
Khan added that fans are already contacting the Liberty Hotel about booking rooms in case the Red Sox advance to the World Series.
