TOPEKA (KSNT) – A free vaccination clinic, school supply drive, lunch and haircut will be offered at Midwest Barber College’s Back to School Bash Saturday as students prepare to return to in-person learning this fall.
The event is open to students K-12 and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at the college on 901 SW 37th St. in south Topeka.
“A haircut can boost a student’s confidence. If they’re worried about how they look, it can be hard to concentrate in school,” said Lucy Opit, owner of Midwest Barber College. “This is our way of helping Topeka students succeed.”
In addition to a haircut, participants will receive free school supplies and have the option to get a coronavirus vaccination. The event will also include music, hotdogs and local vendors.

What We’re Tracking:
After a fairly foggy start to the morning today, temperatures will eventually top out in the lower to middle 80s across the region. A high pressure system moving through will help keep our skies mostly sunny and winds fairly calm. Dewpoints will remain on the more mild side as well making things feel just a bit more pleasant. Cannot rule out an isolated shower around lunch time.
TAHLEQUAH, OK. (KSNT) – The slightly new, but highly improved, Emporia State offense was on full display at Northeastern State.
The defense put on a strong showing too, helping the Hornets to a 38-7 win. Emporia State shut down the Riverhawks until the fourth quarter.
TOPEKA (KSNT)- More than 100 people gathered near Stormont Vail Hospital & Trauma Center to protest the new COVID-19 vaccine mandate, requiring all staff to receive the vaccination by Oct. 31.
The protest took place at the intersection of SW Washburn Ave. and SW 10th St., with a handful of Stormont Vail employees in attendance. Many people brought out American flags and signs against the mandate of the vaccination.
