Man hospitalized in critical condition following shooting on S. Calhoun St – WANE

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man is in critical condition after a shooting on S. Calhoun Street Tuesday afternoon.
Around 4:15 p.m., emergency crews were sent to the 4200 block of S. Calhoun Street near McKinnie Avenue on reports of a shooting.
Responding officers found a man laying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound behind a barber shop in the area. The man was taken to an area hospital with life threatening injuries.
Police have put up crime scene take behind Baba’s Market.
It is unknown what led to the shooting or how many people were involved.
Currently, there is no suspect information available. Police said that detectives are canvassing the neighborhood and looking for potential witnesses. Crime Scene Technicians are searching for and collecting any evidence. The Air Support Unit was also summoned to help document the scene.

Lexington Road was closed during the investigation. It has since reopened.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — An area outreach group is preparing to send a truckload of supplies to help people in need states away.
It’s been a little more than two months since Hurricane Ida hit land in Louisiana. Although it hasn’t received much national coverage in recent weeks, PIE’s Clothing Closet said there is still a need for supplies as people recover.
HAMMOND, Ind. (WANE) – The coroner has identified the body of a dead child found in a retention pond in northwest Indiana Thursday.
The girl was identified as 1-year-old Jaclyn Angel Dobbs of Deerfield, Illinois. Her family has been notified.
INDIANAPOLIS (WANE) – The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) has announced 35 newly-designated Purple Star schools, two high schools in northeast Indiana have received the designation. The designation is valid for three years. 
“Schools receiving the Purple Star designation are awarded for their significant display of commitment to service members, veterans and students and families connected to our nation’s military,” IDOE said.
