A woman from Uganda has become the latest to defy the odds and give credence to the saying that disability is not inability.
Irene Musuya is a woman who has remained isolated from the world for the longest part of her life because she has a hearing impairment.
This has, however, not deterred her from not venturing out and eke a living for herself. Despite her challenge, Musuya has curved a hustle for herself by leveraging on her plaiting skills.

Unlike many saloonists who set up beauty parlours, Musuya became innovative and takes the services to her client's doorsteps.
To ease her movement, the saloonist learnt how to ride a motorbike and has since acquired one. She moves around using the bike, which is deemed as a male-operated tool.

Musuya said she communicates with her clients via text messages to book appointments since she can't receive calls.
In a report filed by Daily Monitor, with support from her husband, the woman said she has plans to grow and start up her own beauty salon.
However, her business has been dealt a blow by curfew restrictions that have reduced her hours of operation.
She charges her clients between KSh 600 to KSh 900 for hairdressing.
The talented woman said before the COVID-19 pandemic struck she would plait three to four clients per day, but the number reduced to one or non per day because of the restrictions.
One would wonder how Musuya manages to use the road without hearing other road users.
She intimates she takes advantage of vibrations around and is always very observant of road safety rules.
