A UCD student who’d been working in a Dublin restaurant went on social media last week to report what happened when he went to collect his final pay packet. Rian Keogh said he’d taken a job at Alfie’s of South William Street in order to come off the pandemic unemployment payment (PUP) last July, and admits he failed to give the required notice when he decided to move on.
“After chasing my last pay for weeks” in order to pay for college expenses, he was told to come in and collect the money he was owed. When he did so, Keogh was handed a Hellmann’s mayonnaise bucket of copper coins, totalling €355 and weighing 29.8kg, or almost five stone. He carried it home on the
