Hairstylists open salon in former flower shop – The Ellsworth American

BUCKSPORT A trio of beauty professionals has gone into business together, creating a new salon on Main Street in the former Blossoms By the Bay shop at 74 Main St., Suite 100. Bayside Beauty opened Jan. 2. The shop belongs to Laurie Gray, Kimberly Gray (no relation) and Sherry Dostie.
Hairstylist Laurie Gray had owned Studio 83 nearby on Main Street for over 10 years. Hairstylist Kimberly Gray also worked at Studio 83. Sherry Dostie had recently been a stylist at A Cut Above Day Spa in Bangor and is also a former cosmetology school teacher.
“We all had these great ideas of what we wanted in a salon, so we thought, ‘Let’s do it,’” said Dostie.
For her part, Laurie wanted to keep owning a salon but didn’t want to be a solo business owner anymore. With two business partners, if she wants to take a vacation, she’ll be able to now.
“It’s serendipitous in a lot of ways,” said Kimberly Gray. The florist location became available as the trio was planning to open a shop. “We got up and running in three weeks,” she said.
The group said they were thankful for all the help friends and family provided in getting the shop together as well as for the speed with which the town of Bucksport and the state came through with all the necessary licensing and permitting they needed.
They named the business Bayside Beauty because the shop’s backside faces the water. They all like being located on Bucksport’s Main Street for its visibility.
“I’ve never been so busy in 15 years of doing business,” said Kimberly Gray.
Right now, they offer hair services, including cuts, style and color. Nail services will be added soon. Tanning will be available probably in March. They will have a standing tanning bed as well as a laydown bed.
The shop is open Monday through Saturday, closed Sundays. Call or text 460-6944 for an appointment.
“It’s always best to call ahead, but we encourage walk-ins,” said Dostie.
“You might have to wait or come back in a half hour,” said Laurie. But they can often fit people in.
