Barber teachers from the Germantown-based Pennsylvania Barber School provided free haircuts to prepare students for the new school year at the Unity in the Northwest Community Celebration on Saturday, August 28. State Representative Stephen Kinsey and State Senator Art Haywood joined forces with community groups to organize the festival with music, refreshments, service awards, and community resources along the 5900 block of Germantown Avenue, despite the forecasted rainy weather. Ronald Murray, left, the school’s director, joined Feo, right a barber/teacher, to freshen up Nakà Coleman, 13, of Olney. The barbers were invited by the 14th Police District to assist at the event, where police and police chaplains gave out pretzels, hamburgers, and hot dogs, along with backpacks filled with school supplies.
