Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar said barber, hairdressing and other salon services must be halted for now, during a press conference yesterday.
“Other than having to bear the high costs of home call services equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE) and other precautions, the services require close contact with customers, and this will increase the risk of spread,” he said, referring to a viral video of an at-home haircut session. “Unlike dentists, who are well-versed in health procedures, people offering haircutting services would pose unnecessary risks, such as infecting others or become infected themselves, despite the measures they may have taken.”
The minister also urged the public to report such services, deemed illegal for now, to
the police.
“The public is advised to be patient with the unavailability of such services,” he said, while jokingly advising the public to sport a haircut like his.
