Barber leaves Main Street after 40-years in Hillsboro – Hillsboro Free Press

Randy Wiens has been cutting hair on Main Street in Hillsboro for 40 years. And he did it for 10 years before that in another location.
“I don’t tell everybody I had ten years out in Western Kansas ’cause that makes me pretty old,” Wiens said with a laugh.
But now, after all this time downtown, Wiens has decided to move his shop out to his home.
“I always said after 50 years, I would retire or do something different. I guess this is different,” he said.
Wiens said the only complaint he has had so far after a few weeks at his new location is that people wish he had done it sooner.
Wiens new shop is located on his property which is at 2056 Kanza. He said that putting it in your GPS will take you to his neighbor, Bonnie Funk’s house though so instead he recommends you go out on Ash past Bomgaars and turn right (East). Drive two miles to Kanza and turn left (North). About a quarter of a mile down, you will take the third driveway which is his. There is a small Silver Sheers sign in the grass by the road near the driveway. When you pull in the driveway, head straight back and to the right a bit where you will see his shop with the barber pole outside.
There you can get the same great service but just at a more scenic location.
He remains closed on Monday just like he always has been. You can call and make your appointment at the same number as before 620-947-3690.
The old shop at 127 ½ N. Main Street will remain a barbershop. Chris LaPerle, who is engaged to Karina Torres, the co-owner of the local Mexican restaurant in Hillsboro, is moving in there and setting up a shop called Sgt. LaPerle’s Barber Shop.
“Come on in and see me 8:30 a.m.- 6 p.m. on Tuesday-Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday,” he said on a Facebook post.
