Brandon Barber (Alabama Department of Transportation)
An Alabama Department of Transportation worker was killed Monday when he was hit by a vehicle in a Chilton County construction zone.
Alabama State Troopers identified the victim as Brandon F. Barber. He was 33.
The crash happened at 9:15 a.m. on Alabama 191, about two miles south of Jemison.
Trooper Larry C. Thomas said Barber was holding a traffic control sign in the construction zone when motorist Dylan Ryan Green, 29, failed to yield and struck Barber. Green was driving a Chevrolet Traverse.
Barber was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Clanton where he was pronounced dead.
Barber was a transportation maintenance technician who had been employed with ALDOT for two years. He worked out of the Maplesville District, which covers Chilton and Bibb counties.
“I ask that all of you pray for his family and loved ones during this tragic time,” said ALDOT West Central Assistant Region Engineer Wallace McAdory. “This is a reminder for all of us to use extreme caution in work zones.”
The investigation is ongoing by ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.
