For many years now Southeast College has held a golf tournament fundraiser called the ‘Swing for Scholarships’ and they did it once again on Friday with a very well attended event at the Weyburn Golf Club.
“It was a beautiful day at the Weyburn golf course and we had 12 teams as well as a number sponsors that were able to participate with us, and at the end of the day we raised right around that $12,000 mark for students at Southeast College,” explained Sheena Onrait, Manager of Marketing and Communications with Southeast College. “Then of course those dollars are matched through the Ministry of Advanced Education through the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program. So together, that’s $24,000 in student scholarships that we raised on Friday.”
The main Presenting Sponsor for the whole day was the Weyburn Credit Union with the Prairie Sky Co-op and MNP as the Drive for Education Sponsors.
South Country Equipment, Nexans, the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce, Western Financial, Mryglod Steel and Metals, Rona, New Age Electronics, Suretest Oilfield Services, Liquor Spot, T & C Family Restaurant, SaskTel, and the Weyburn Oilwomen Association were all Hole Sponsors for the fundraising event.
The many door prize sponsors included Boston Pizza, Big Jim’s Brewing, Weimer’s Hometown, York Jewellers, Tanya Hulbert, South Country Equipment, Liquor Spot, T&C Family Restaurant, Southern Range Well Servicing, Fountain Tire, Peavey Mart, Canadian Tire, SaskEnergy, Bourassa, Fisk Repair and Rentals, Roots Salon, TS & M Supply, Wor-Kin Shop, Richardson Pioneer, Jerry Mainil, NSWB, Aldon Oils, and Crescent Point Energy.
“Our Swing for Scholarships fundraisers are the foundation of how we raise money for usually the scholarships that we use for at the beginning of our programs,” Onrait told. “We just went through a revamp of our scholarship program and we put more emphasis on giving away scholarships and bursaries at the beginning of programs when we feel like the student’s needs are at the utmost importance. When they’re starting school, paying those tuition fees, and paying those book fees. So these do have a really big impact on the dollars that we give away to our students at the beginning of their programs.”
The weather cooperated throughout the whole day as the Southeast College hosted one of their most successful fundraising events.
The winning teams from the tournament were Team Barber Motors for having the lowest score and Team Weyburn Credit Union for having the most honest score.
Onrait thanked everyone that came out and took part in this year’s ‘Swing for Scholarships’ event and stated that they are already looking forward to their upcoming fundraiser in 2022.
